There are some 2018 moments that Texas football fans won’t forget at any point soon in regard to the departing junior wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey.

There was a host of transfers that hit the Texas football program before the off-season even officially started. Last month, Texas football had to worry about all of the roster turnover with the newly instituted NCAA Transfer Portal wreaking havoc on the depth at some important positions, especially with the quarterback room. But, potentially the most impactful departure for Texas football didn’t happen in the quarterback room, but in the receiving corps.

Breakthrough junior wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey declared for the 2019 NFL Draft one year early, leaving a hole where the most versatile weapon for Texas football was during the 2018 campaign. Many expected Humphrey to return to the Forty Acres for the final year of his collegiate career, but he took his rising 2019 NFL Draft stock and became one of the numerous early entrants from the Big 12.

It will be Humphrey entering the 2019 NFL Draft, as the only early entrant this year from the Texas football program. The other key players that could have made the way into the 2019 NFL Draft as early entrants decided to return to the Forty Acres for the upcoming season.

The most important of the returning players was the rising senior wide receiver Collin Johnson. Humphrey and Johnson were the dynamic duo at wideout Texas football was searching for the past eight years. Humphrey was the leader of the two, posting more than 1,000 receiving yards and 11 total touchdowns during his junior campaign.
