2. 47-yard touchdown catch vs. USC

Date: Sep. 15

Humphrey came into this key Week 3 showdown for the Horns with some confidence off two nice performances against the Maryland Terrapins and Tulsa Golden Hurricane to open the season. He posted nearly 200 receiving yards and one touchdown in what amounted to two disappointing outings for this team.

Moreover, the non-conference slate was filled with special moments for the Texas football program that would be more memorable if not for the collapse of the USC Trojans and TCU Horned Frogs down the stretch. There were two defining moments for what was to come for Humphrey during the regular season. One was against TCU and the other came against USC.

The best of those two defining moments came when Humphrey reeled in his second receiving touchdown of the season to give the Horns some life in a game that was slipping from the Horns against USC. An intermediate route from Humphrey that should’ve gone for about eight or 10 yards broke free for a huge touchdown scamper after initial contact.

One of the strongest parts of Humphrey’s game is the ability to make things happen after the catch. Humphrey is strong enough to shed wimpy tacklers and the agility to make defenders miss in the open field. In this case, he spun off the initial contact and his speed did the rest as he ran away for the 47-yard touchdown catch and run that helped sparked the Texas win over USC.
