2. Desmond Bane shoots 50 percent from beyond the arc

TCU has one very good shooter that can hit it from almost anywhere on the court. But, this is a TCU team ran through its back court and thrives off its ability to space the floor. The 6-foot-5 and 215 junior breakout guard Desmond Bane is TCU’s scoring leader this season, and is also the spark plug for the offense.

Bane averages just shy of 15.0 points per game this season and he’s hitting his field goal tries at an impressive mark of 52.4 percent. However, his effectiveness stretches far beyond his ability to score. Bane is having an impact all over the place with 24.6 points per 100 possessions, 9.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.8 steals.

With how much of an impact Bane can have driving and beating teams on the inside with his quick moves off the dribble and how slippery he is down low, you’d think that’s where he gets most of his points. But, Bane is a 42 percent career three-point shooter. He’s nailing 1.5 three-pointers per game in just under four tries.

Fellow junior TCU guard Jaylen Fisher is going to power this team’s offensive effort alongside Bane. Fisher’s ability to command the floor and distribute the ball opens things up for Bane to drive and hit from the outside when afforded the opportunity. If the Horns can lock down on this skilled TCU back court, it can reach the brink of victory. But, Bane and Fisher are going to be a difficult duo to stop for the Texas defense.
