1. Rice Owls

The in-state option for former Texas football players at the skill positions seems to be a favorite landing spot of late. Dating back to the transfer of former standout Texas football freshman wide receiver Reggie Hemphill-Mapps last year to a local JUCO, this program seems to keep sending out skill position players to those types of locations.

That trend extended to this off-season, as the former Horns standout freshman running back Toneil Carter landed with the FCS Sam Houston State Bearcats. Carter does have the talent to make it at a Power Five program, especially with some of the flashes he showed during his high school career and in the game action he did get under head Texas football coach Tom Herman.

However, one program that is an interesting fit between for Houston at the Division 1 level is the Rice Owls. It seems as if Rice keeps giving the Horns graduate transfer candidates, so it gets something in return this time. But, the main appeal of Rice for Houston should be the ability to make an immediate impact for a program that is set to lose at least two key running backs this off-season.

If Texas lands the Rice graduate transfer defensive tackle Zach Abercrumbia this off-season, it would be like a trade between 2015 signees including Houston. Offensive line coach Herb Hand also got to add the former Rice grad transfer offensive tackle Calvin Anderson last off-season, so possibly this route could go two ways between the Owls and Horns now.
