With his 2019 NFL Draft stock on the line in the Senior Bowl today, former Texas football defensive end Charles Omenihu stood out.

The 2019 NFL Draft is gaining on us, and will be here before we know it. For the Texas football program, the 2019 NFL Draft could be an opportunity for some of its best players from the 2018 team getting early round selections that could boost the profile heading into the 2019 season.

One of the definitive players to watch in this 2019 Reese’s Senior Bowl this weekend is the reigning Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year and Texas Longhorns standout defensive end Charles Omenihu. Both of the representatives in this year’s Senior Bowl from the Texas football program played on the defensive side of the ball for the North Team. The other was the physical cornerback Kris Boyd.

For Boyd, this Senior Bowl week was about proving that some of his consistent deficiencies he showed during his time on the Forty Acres is something he is able to fix. He had an up and down week of workouts, though. SB Nation’s Stampede Blue gave an insight into his 2019 NFL Draft stock in the middle of workouts this past week. But, it was a difficult week for every defensive back for the most part in Senior Bowl drills.

However, the same could not be said for Omenihu who was looking to have a big week from the word go. According to USA Today, Omenihu impressed as one of the best prospects all week during Senior Bowl workouts.

There was a lot on the line for the 2019 NFL Draft stock for both Omenihu and Boyd in the Senior Bowl. All week, the performances from Boyd and Omenihu needed to be on point to prove their worth as potential early round selections in this draft. Boyd had more hype in this draft class than Omenihu coming into Senior Bowl week, but that all could change soon.

The way Omenihu showed out in this Senior Bowl led to nothing but compliments coming his way. The 2019 NFL Draft boards are going to get some adjusting at the defensive end spot following a huge day from Omenihu. You could argue he was the most impressive defensive end out there on Jan. 26.

One of the biggest plays of the day for Omenihu, and one of the most flooring, was a rush from the outside where he got the sack and forced a fumble on the former Auburn Tigers quarterback Jarrett Stidham. Omenihu also had numerous tackles for loss in the Senior Bowl and lived in the South Team’s backfield whenever he was in the game.
