Texas Football: 2020 3-star OT Jaylen Garth next Horns OL commit?
Among the potential candidates to be the next pledge for the 2020 Texas football recruiting class, 3-star OT Jaylen Garth could be it.
The 2019 recruiting cycle was very kind to the Texas Longhorns of late. Landing the former USC Trojans signee, and five-star Mater Dei High School athlete Bru McCoy, was the big news the 2019 Texas football recruiting class was looking for all during this cycle. However, the 2020 Texas football recruiting class got some good fortune within the past few days too.
Adding the skilled and overpowering three-star in-state offensive tackle Jake Majors to the 2020 Texas football recruiting class in the past few days was impactful. Two of the three commits in the 2020 Texas football recruiting class at this point are offensive linemen. Considering that is a huge positional need for Texas football right now, it’s a relief to get this type of result on the recruiting trail.
Now, Texas football has an opportunity to add its third offensive line commit in the coming months with how one key offensive tackle target is trending. This key target for the 2020 Texas football recruiting class is a three-star Port Neches-Groves 6-foot-4 and 285 pound offensive tackle Jaylen Garth.
For the second straight recruiting cycle, Texas football has the opportunity to nab a key offensive prospect out of Port Neches, TX. In the 2019 Texas football recruiting class, the Horns hauled in the highly touted four-star dual-threat quarterback Roschon Johnson. As an early enrollee for spring camp, Johnson is already on campus on the Forty Acres.
Moreover, the 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions favor Texas football at this point to get the commitment of Garth. There are five Crystal Ball Predictions in for Garth and all of them favor Texas. Rivals FutureCast and FanFutureCast also give Texas football a near guaranteed shot to get the commitment of Garth.
Garth originally received his offer from the 2020 Texas football recruiting class on Jun. 8, 2018. He holds 10 offers in total from a growing offer sheet that includes some big time programs. The rival Texas A&M Aggies, Alabama Crimson Tide, Arkansas Razorbacks, LSU Tigers, and Ohio State Buckeyes are also some of the 10 offers Garth has at this point.

However, a commitment from Garth would give the Horns the nation’s No. 351 2020 high school prospect and a top 40 offensive tackle. Garth is also firmly ranked inside the top 50 2020 high school prospects out of the state of Texas.
There hasn’t been much activity in the recruitment of Garth of late. He did receive his offer from head coach Ed Orgeron and LSU on Jan. 19. But, his last recorded unofficial or official visit was with head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide back in July 2018.
The appeal of Johnson enrolling early with the Horns has to appeal to some degree to Garth. He would fit in well under offensive line coach Herb Hand. His quick feet and athleticism for a high school offensive tackle is far-ahead of where he should be and his skill would be very welcome on the Forty Acres.
