5. What happens with Javonne Shepherd?

This past weekend, a pivotal commit at a position of need for the Horns visited one of the two programs ranked ahead of them in the national class rankings, the Georgia Bulldogs. The North Forest High School in-state offensive line commit Javonne Shepherd is getting some interest from competing SEC programs. That includes Georgia and the in-state rival Texas A&M Aggies.

Shepherd committed to the 2019 Texas football recruiting class last summer, so he’s been with this group for a while. But, Texas football is trying to do everything it can to hang on and sign Shepherd before National Signing Day. If he waits until Feb. 6 took make a decision, that won’t bode well for the Horns.

There’s indications looming that Shepherd is still keeping his recruitment pretty open. That visit with Georgia over the weekend combined with the storyline that remains from the past few months about his interest in Texas A&M doesn’t inspire much confidence that he is a sure thing to sign with the Horns.

He also had an official visit with the Alabama Crimson Tide over the weekend. His visit with Alabama came on Jan. 25 and Georgia was the day before on Jan. 24. But, he is set for a visit to the Forty Acres on Feb. 1. Getting the final shot at locking down on Shepherd is huge for the Horns in signing his letter of intent.
