3. Is the top spot in the Big 12 there for the taking?

As of Jan. 29, Texas football owns the top spot in the Big 12 recruiting rankings for the 2019 cycle. The Oklahoma Sooners are within striking distance of the Horns, but it would take a huge run for them to takeover that top spot in the Big 12 rankings. The next few teams down in the Big 12 recruiting rankings for this cycle would need a miracle to top either the Horns or Sooners.

In the national class rankings, Texas football only sits behind Georgia and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Gaining ground on Georgia and Alabama isn’t too likely, but certainly possible. Head Texas football coach Tom Herman has to have his mind focused toward getting the top spot in the Big 12 recruiting rankings, though.

Oklahoma doesn’t really have anything in line in terms of four or five-star commits and signees that aren’t apart of the 2019 recruiting class already. Most of the recruiting ranking adjustments are over with too as far as 247Sports is concerned. The opportunity for Oklahoma to jump Texas is slipping quickly.

Other Big 12 teams like the TCU Horned Frogs, Baylor Bears, and Oklahoma State Cowboys, can still duke it out for positioning outside the top two. But, there’s not really anything that any of the teams outside Texas and Oklahoma can do at this point of the recruiting cycle to move up into the top two spots.
