A trend for most of the players from the 2019 Texas football recruiting class on this list is the ratings bump most of them received from 247Sports. One of the three biggest jumps in the recruiting rankings among the commits and signees for the Horns went to five-star Plano, TX, safety Tyler Owens this month.

Owens was a former four-star safety signee for the Horns until he was bumped up to five-stars in the 247Sports composite ranking thanks to a few different factors. Potentially the biggest factor to the ratings bump for Owens was his showing in the Under-Armour All-America Game earlier this month.

However, Owens also topped off his career at Plano East High School for his senior campaign nicely with a career season and a good run into the state playoffs. Thanks to all of that, Owens sits as the No. 24 2019 high school prospect in the nation and third best safety in his 247Sports composite ranking.

Most of all, it’s the physical tools that Owens brings to the table that will help him make an impact for the Horns in his time on the Forty Acres. At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, Owens is one of the more physically stout signees in this incoming class of recruits. He also has the maturity and awareness in his game to earn some early playing time in the next two seasons.
