While four-star Westlake Village, CA, ultra-talented inside linebacker De’Gabriel Floyd didn’t get a massive ratings bump of late like Owens or Smith, he could make one of the biggest early impacts of anyone in this recruiting class. At 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds and with elite speed for a linebacker, Floyd will get his shot at winning a starting job this season.

The California pipeline established by head Texas football coach Tom Herman is fully evident in this recruiting class. Floyd is one of the numerous signees out of the state of California that Herman managed to pry away from the likes of the Washington Huskies, UCLA Bruins, Oregon Ducks, USC, etc. in the PAC-12.

The way Floyd showed out in the Under-Armour All-America Game displayed why he could have got a ratings adjustment up to five-stars. Even though that didn’t become a reality, Floyd still ranks as a top 70 2019 high school prospect in the nation and the third best inside linebacker. Texas seems to be making a theme out of landing the third best player at his position in this class on the defensive side of the ball.

Yet, Floyd isn’t the third highest ranked player in this 2019 Texas football recruiting class by Rivals or 247Sports. It’s his ability to make an immediate impact, extremely high ceiling, and skill set coming onto the Forty Acres that places him here. Enrolling early to participate in spring camp is also a bonus for Floyd’s chances to play in 2019.
