Texas Football: Talented 2021 DE Tunmise Adeleye includes Horns among finalists
The top 15 was released on Twitter for a big time 2021 DE target for Texas football, from Katy, TX, native Tunmise Adeleye.
This might not be the final narrowing down of the top group to land the commitment of a potentially elite 2021 in-state defensive end prospect, but the most recent list included the Texas football program. The rising junior Tompkins High School strong-side defensive end out of Katy, TX, Tunmise Adeleye has the raw skill set and talent building to become an instant impact caliber recruit for Texas football when the 2021 class takes center stage.
On Feb. 5, Adeleye announced his top 15 schools that will encompass his commitment decisions. The 2021 Texas football recruiting class was in the midst of numerous finalist schools within the same state. Adeleye also included the in-state Baylor Bears, Houston Cougars, SMU Mustangs, TCU Horned Frogs, Texas A&M Aggies, and UTSA Roadrunners. It appears as if Adeleye’s commitment could come down to a few different Texas schools.
However, one other Big 12 program was included in Adeleye’s top 15. The Oklahoma Sooners were the only Big 12 program outside the state of Texas. But, the usual two biggest competitors for Texas football on the recruiting trail are present in the top 15 here with Oklahoma and Texas A&M.
The trio that includes head Texas football coach Tom Herman, Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley, and Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher are quickly becoming some of the most prominent on the recruiting trail in the entire country. Those three pretty much sit behind just Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban and Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart as the nation’s best recruiters as the head men of their respective programs.
The momentum rolling on the recruiting trail for Texas football at defensive end and linebackers appears to have some consistency, all the way up to the 2021 class. Texas football doesn’t have a single commit yet for the 2021 class, but it could come from this talented defensive end.
Some early indicators are there to show that the interest is growing between Adeleye and the Texas Longhorns. The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions do give the Early edge for Adeleye’s pledge to the Texas football program. Rivals FutureCast has an early edge falling to Texas A&M over Texas football and Oklahoma. But, Adeleye did take a recent visit to the Forty Acres last month.
This 6-foot-3 and 260 pound defensive end recruit has the size and speed to standout under defensive coordinator Todd Orlando. Adeleye is a bit shorter than him, but departing senior defensive end Charles Omenihu shares a similar skill set and frame to that of Adeleye. Omenihu came on the Forty Acres at 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds.
What Adeleye could bring for the Horns is a motor that doesn’t stop off the line and enough strength to set the edge in run stopping and the pass rush. That is apparent in the stats he posted during his sophomore campaign with Tompkins. He registered 56 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss, eight sacks, and one safety in 2018.
However, there were some offers that Adeleye excluded that bodes well for Texas football and some of the other in-state programs pursuing him. Adeleye’s most recent offer came from the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Feb. 5, and that team wasn’t in his top 15. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Texas Tech Red Raiders have also showed some interest in Adeleye, but haven’t offered him yet and aren’t in his top 15 according to Rivals.
