Texas Football: 3 2019 National Signing Day takeaways
With the 2019 Texas football recruiting class now in the books after National Signing Day, what can we takeaway from end to this cycle?
The 2019 Texas football recruiting class is finalized and announced after a rather uneventful National Signing Day, on Feb. 6. Around the Big 12 in general, National Signing Day 2019 was extremely uneventful compared to the Early Signing Period.
National Signing Day for this recruiting cycle provided more action in the SEC and PAC-12 than it did the Big 12. Especially in the SEC, there were some massive headlines that provided for some shakeups in the national class rankings for Rivals, 247Sports, and ESPN.
Retention was largely the biggest storyline not just with the Texas football program for this recruiting cycle, but also for some of the more prominent Big 12 programs. The Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and Texas football had a few commits that needed to get signed down on Feb. 6 just to ensure retention of each 2019 class.
There were a few commitment announcements that Texas football had some intrigue for, but really only one that it had a shot for. When it was all said and done on this National Signing Day, Texas football held the same number of commits that it came into the morning with, at 24. There was just one more signed than there was in Feb. 5.
Head Texas football coach Tom Herman was even able to turn his focus to the 2020 and 2021 recruiting classes, including handing out a few key offers. The institution of the Early Signing Period starting in December 2017 allowed coaches like Herman to get a jump on things for future recruiting cycles at this time.
Here’s a look at the official recap, thoughts, and three takeaways from the 2019 National Signing Day to close out this recruiting cycle for the Texas Longhorns.
