Texas Football: 3 2019 National Signing Day takeaways
3. Javonne Shepherd rounds out offensive line depth
One of the more anxious moments for Texas football fans, players, and coaches on National Signing Day came along with the final commitment and signing decision of four-star North Forest High School and Houston, TX, offensive tackle Javonne Shepherd. Herman was able to hang onto the commitment of Shepherd when it was all said and done today.
Shepherd was picking between four finalists on National Signing Day for his final commitment announcement. He was choosing between the Horns, Alabama, Georgia, and the Texas A&M Aggies. Within the two weeks leading up to National Signing Day, Shepherd also visited all four schools at least once. He also had a significant coach visit from Saban prior to National Signing Day.

Texas wound up getting the last laugh in the Shepherd-saga. The final visit he had among the four schools was to the Forty Acres, which was a good glimpse into which way he could be leaning for the direction of his signed letter of intent. Shepherd was the final commit for the Horns to sign his letter of intent.
What Shepherd brings for the Horns is the third offensive tackle signee in the 2019 recruiting class. All three offensive line signees are classified as four-star offensive tackles coming out of high school. There is some significant roster turnover for the Horns this off-season along the offensive line, but Herb Hand should have enough depth and incoming talent to make up for it soon.
