1. SEC gains a lot of strength

The headlines for National Signing Day were very favorable for most SEC programs. We’ve already mentioned the success that Ole Miss had on the recruiting trail on Feb. 6, mostly thanks to the commitments and signings of Ealy and Henry. It was also a big day for other SEC programs like Florida, Georgia, and Alabama.

Although Alabama started off National Signing Day by losing a few of its 28 commitments it came into the morning with, it still wrapped up this recruiting cycle with another top ranked class in the nation. Alabama found success with three of its more important National Signing Day commitment decisions, highlighted by four-star defensive tackle (Texas offeree) Ishmael Sopsher.

Another program you have to give some props to for its National Signing Day efforts is the LSU Tigers. Head coach Ed Orgeron was able to pull some big Feb. 6 surprises, and landed some signees favored to end up in Baton Rouge, LA. Four-star Amite High School athlete Devonta Lee was one of the bigger pulls of the day.

Texas gets to face LSU at the highlight of its non-conference slate this coming season, and its marquee opponent will now head into that game with some recruiting momentum. All in all, the SEC encompassed four of the nation’s top five ranked 2019 classes and seven of the top 12. This was a big day of success on the recruiting trail even by SEC standards.
