Most Immediate Impact: RB Derrian Brown

There’s a big difference between a player that can make an immediate impact and an overall top rated commit for the 2019 recruiting class. A lot of what football programs really search for nowadays is that “immediate impact” prospect that can come in an make a difference right away. That’s part of the whole backing behind the enormous recruiting market that encompasses junior colleges.

Becoming an immediate impact signee consists of a few factors for head Texas football coach Tom Herman. The first, and most important part, and becoming an immediate impact signee is having the skill set necessary to fill a positional need for the Horns.

Sometimes talent just wins the day for an incoming freshman, no matter how little the positional need might be. Blue bloods need to do whatever it takes, within certain constraints, to put the best and most fitting talent out on the field game in and game out. Freshman-All American safety Caden Sterns was a good example of having talent win out above all for the Texas defense.

However, we need to finally jump into his four-star Buford, GA, running back Derrian Brown somehow fits into this category. Before the Early Signing Period, the Hope was that Texas football would be able to pull in a top 10 ranked high school running back in the nation. But, Brown is the 12th best at his position and his film shows he could be underrated at that.

The biggest immediate difference maker among the incoming freshmen last year was four-star in-state running back Keaontay Ingram. This coming season, Ingram will be paired with incoming freshman Brown who will be counted on to possibly be the second-most active and productive rusher in the mix.
