There is an exciting prospect for Shane Buechele in regards to playing in Dallas, TX, with the rising SMU offense. Since Morris was leading the way for the Mustangs, this offense was one of the better among the Group of Five programs. Hicks was also a pretty proficient quarterback for the Mustangs for the past few years.

The highlight of the potential for a quarterback with the SMU offense was evident when Hicks registered more than 3,500 passing yards and 33 touchdowns, compared to just 12 interceptions. Even in 2018, SMU averaged more than 270 passing yards per game and nearly 2.5 touchdowns. It was actually the ground game that was lacking this past season.

SMU is getting back some key skill position pieces from the 2018 roster, namely rising senior running back Ke’Mon Freeman and wide receiver James Proche. Freeman was the second leading rusher from the 2018 team and Proche went pretty well over 1,000 receiving yards. There’s also a host of talent coming into the SMU football program from the 2019 signing class, highlighted by skilled 6-foot-3 three-star wide receiver Calvin Wiggins.

The 2018 SMU offensive line was also pretty young, so most of the five starters should be returning for the upcoming season. Across the board, most of the offensive starters for SMU from 2018 should be back around Buechele in 2019. The incoming recruiting class is also pretty good for SMU on the offensive side of the ball.
