The former four-star Port Neches Groves High School dual-threat quarterback Roschon Johnson needs to have a big 2019 spring camp with the Texas football program. As one of the highest rated 2019 high school dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation, Johnson is set to come onto the Forty Acres with some high expectations.

Johnson is one of the most important early enrollees to watch from the 2019 signing class for the Horns. He is one of 10 early enrollees that could make a difference for the Horns in 2019, and that are trying to get a leg up in spring camp. The early development for Johnson is also key since he is going to get more reps than expected with Rising and Buechele out of the picture.

At 6-foot-1 and nearly 200 pounds, Johnson is a tough runner and an accurate passer. The concerns surrounding Johnson’s ability to spearhead this offensive attack would be his arm strength and timing on quick routes. His film from Port-Neches Groves shows Johnson as a very powerful runner that is a huge threat when rolling out of the pocket. But, he can also get inconsistent and out of rhythm at times when forced to be a pocket passer.

Since Johnson and Thompson are the only two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster with a last name that’s not Ehlinger, they’re going to get a hefty workload in spring camp. The reps are important for each since neither has any real game action under their belts at the college level.
