1. Texas gets at least 65 points on Kansas State again

Kansas State’s defense ranks No. 4 in the nation in points allowed per game, at a hair under 60. Yet, the main reason why the Horns can be so effective against this vaunted Kansas State defense is the ability of the back court to create open looks and the advantage the front court holds over the smaller defenders.

Texas basketball is a team that prides itself on defense, especially with the style of play that Smart likes to roll with. But, Kansas State’s defense is very likely the toughest in the Big 12 and has some of the most capable and experienced two-way players.

The consistent issue for the Wildcats is not defense. It is quite the opposite, since Kansas State ranks No. 1 in the Big 12 in points allowed per game and No. 10 in points scored per game. The key for the opposing team to knock off the Wildcats seems to be scoring more than 65 points. That can be a difficult task against a team that doesn’t often allow more than 60.

Texas did already show this season that it is capable of posting more than 65 points while staying tight on defense. The final score the first time around between the Horns and Wildcats resulted in a final score of 67-47. And, Texas will have the home crowd behind them at the Frank Erwin Center to get things going.
