3. Rise of the Texas defense, and program in general

What defensive coordinator Todd Orlando is doing for his side of the ball with the Texas football program right now is pretty extraordinary. During Charlie Strong’s tenure on the Forty Acres, and even near the end of the Mack Brown-era, Texas couldn’t get its footing right in terms of establishing defensive consistency.

Especially in the front seven, the Horns are the most consistent group in the Big 12 since Orlando took over on the Forty Acres. Texas boasts an incredible amount of depth and talent year after year in the trenches and at linebacker. Even the offensive line rose to the occasion under new offensive line coach Herb Hand this past season.

However, this should appeal to Flowe because he could join a front seven that is rising among the best in the nation in the coming seasons. Orlando is just adding more and more talent into the mix from the past two recruiting classes for the Horns, which both ranked in the top three in the nation.

Texas reached new heights in 2018, capping off the season with a huge Allstate Sugar Bowl victory over the Georgia Bulldogs and an appearance in the Big 12 Championship Game. Herman has the trajectory of this program headed back where it should be among the national powers, and Flowe should want to be a part of that journey.
