1. San Francisco 49ers

If the San Francisco 49ers can put it all together this coming season, the NFC West better watch out. There’s very few teams in the NFL that had as many unfortunate circumstances over the course of the past two seasons than the Niners. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and former Texas wide receiver Marquise Goodwin are a very solid combination in the passing game.

San Francisco does have some patches that need to be filled to continue moving this roster in the right direction. The defensive end spot is one of the areas that is a surprising looming need for the Niners given how the franchise drafted over the course of the past two years. Former Stanford Cardinal defensive end Solomon Thomas is a complete bust thus far.

Outside of what Thomas did for the Niners for the past two seasons, a few other defensive ends are struggling too. The former Oregon standout defensive end Arik Armstead managed just three sacks this past season. Another former Duck defensive end DeForest Buckner did have a big season, with 12 sacks.

If the Niners can get a productive defensive end like Charles Omenihu to work out in the mix, then this defensive line can start to round out and support a hopefully healthy offense. What does work for San Francisco in terms of selecting Omenihu is the early second and third round selections in the 2019 NFL Draft.
