The next two additions to the coaching staff for the Texas football program could soon be two former head coaches, Larry Fedora and David Beaty.

The trend of hiring some big name former head coaches and assistants as analysts with big time programs around the country seems to be continuing now on the Forty Acres. Head Texas football coach Tom Herman is looking to add to a coaching staff that had a surprising amount of stability since the 2018 regular season began.

Texas football didn’t have a single major assistant or head coach turnover this off-season. That seems like it is the first time since the Mack Brown-era ended with the Texas football program that something like that was able to occur. According to Orange Bloods’ Anwar Richardson, former North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Larry Fedora accepted a spot on the Texas football coaching staff this past weekend as an offensive analyst.

However, this news stems beyond Herman and the Texas Longhorns bringing the former UNC head coach and strong offensive mind Fedora aboard of late. Per 247Sports reports, Herman could also be looking to bring the former Kansas Jayhawks head coach David Beaty aboard as an analyst along with Fedora.

Just two years ago, Fedora and Beaty were two of the presumed rising head coaches among some of the lower-tier Power Five programs in the nation. Kansas and UNC were at different tiers entering the 2017 campaign, but both coaches looked to have a very promising future in the ACC and Big 12 respectively.

Fedora did have a few successful seasons during his time in Chapel Hill, NC. He was also able to help produce the current Chicago Bears standout quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and the former All-ACC signal caller Marquise Williams. He just ran into a difficult time with a ton of roster turnover and injury issues the past two season with the Tar Heels.

Moreover, Beaty was ousted as the head coach with the Kansas football program following a rough 2018 campaign. He will be succeeded by the former LSU Tigers head coach Les Miles. And, the former Texas football national title-winning head coach Mack Brown is set to take Fedora’s spot with UNC.

Herman seemingly took full advantage of two of the brighter young offensive minds that are also big names on the open coaching market. Fedora and Beaty also saw the opportunity to rebuild their coaching career with a rising blue blood program on the Forty Acres.

This would not be the first time that Beaty has assisted the Texas coaching staff on the offensive side of the ball. He helped the Horns prepare for the Oklahoma Sooners in the Big 12 Championship Game last December.

The presence of Beaty and Fedora could not only help the Texas offense perform at a higher level and add some creativity, they could help out on the recruiting trail too. Beaty is known as a good developmental head coach, he just didn’t have much of a chance in Lawrence, KS. Fedora has a few good examples of offensive standouts he helped develop too.

Beaty is not officially hired yet as an assistant for the Texas football coaching staff, but Fedora was. It wouldn’t be too surprising if the news dropped soon that both coaches are officially part of the staff under Herman’s direction, though. Herman did a nice job adding offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator Herb Hand last off-season. Beaty and Fedora could be the next two additions to the staff.
