A recent prediction that had Texas football as an eight-point underdog opening against the LSU Tigers could be dead wrong for Week 2 of the 2019 season.

Some of the recent headlines that dropped regarding the Texas football program of late that the biggest game of the non-conference slate in 2019 puts them at odds is a bit ridiculous. First of all, it’s way too early in the off-season to tell how the LSU Tigers and Texas football will shape out for the beginning of the 2019 regular season.

Some sources indicated that the early odds should fall in the favor of LSU for this key showdown between two teams that finished in the top 10 of this past season’s final AP Poll.

LSU capped its 2018 campaign win a New Year’s Six Bowl victory that snapped the nation’s longest active FBS winning streak with the UCF Knights. Meanwhile, Texas football rounded out its 2018 campaign with a big Sugar Bowl victory over the Georgia Bulldogs.

The real question for Texas football opening the 2019 regular season will be whether it can extend its lengthy winning streak against the SEC. Texas football also capped its 2017 season with a Texas Bowl win over the Mizzou Tigers. It’s been a few years since  Texas football fell short against an SEC opponent. But, LSU will be one of the toughest non-conference challenges it’s faced in a while.

The non-conference battle Texas football had on tap this past season against the USC Trojans proved to not have the national impact anticipated. That was due to the downfall of USC last season under floundering head coach Clay Helton.

Here’s a deeper look into the three reasons why the Texas Longhorns deserve favor over the LSU Tigers in this big 2019 non-conference showdown.
