3. Sam Ehlinger edges Joe Burrow

The quarterback and skill position battles are going to be something to watch between Texas football and LSU in this showdown. On the side of the Horns, rising junior Sam Ehlinger will be looking to push for a Heisman campaign that is already building some steam.

For the side of LSU, the former Ohio State Buckeyes graduate transfer quarterback Joe Burrow will be returning for his final year of eligibility. This past season, Burrow registered more than 3,000 total yards and 23 touchdowns with just five interceptions. He didn’t have enough experience at Ohio State to form much of an impression from his time in Columbus.

Ehlinger posted much better numbers this past season than Burrow, but that could be some part of each offensive system between Texas and LSU. Both are experienced quarterbacks that are going to among the better returning starters in the SEC and Big 12. Ehlinger posted more than 3,500 total yards and 41 touchdowns.

The dual-threat ability and versatility of Ehlinger should gives the Horns the edge over the LSU offense from the very start of this game. Ehlinger also has a standout receiving corps to turn to led by senior wide receivers Devin Duvernay and Collin Johnson. This is an electric Texas offense that LSU has to be ready for.
