1. Home field and momentum

We already mentioned how good of a job Herman did with the past few Texas football recruiting classes. The past two recruiting cycles saw the Horns finish among the top three classes in the nation. Both those were ranked higher than head coach Ed Orgeron and LSU. Incoming talent will give the Horns another edge here.

However, this is a home and home series that will start at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium for the 2019 regular season. LSU will get the home side against Texas in 2020. It is the second game of the regular season for the Horns. The first will also come against a Louisiana school with the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.

Getting LSU at home here is going to be a big advantage for Herman and the Horns. The home field advantage on the Forty Acres will be an atmosphere similar to what powered this team to victory over USC this past season. That was an electric crowd for a primetime night game at DKR.

LSU will also have a lot to prepare for from the week prior with the triple-option attack of the upstart Georgia Southern Eagles. Georgia Southern has to be one of the toughest Group of Five teams in the nation to prepare for. Texas won’t be easy either. Brett McMurphy reporting that Action Network projected LSU as an eight-point favorite in this game could just be downright wrong here.
