It seems like the Texas football coaching staff has quite a bit of traction with the ultra-elusive three-star 2020 running back Ty Jordan.

Things are starting to heat up for the Texas football program on the recruiting trail to add some commits for the 2020 class. This program has now sent out over 90 offers to 2020 prospects, and that number will keep growing through the start of spring camp.

Junior Day was a big weekend for Texas football program last month, adding two pledges that make up a good portion of the 2020 recruiting class. Few weekends will be as fruitful as that for Texas football, but it is still a good sign for what’s to come this off-season.

The next add to the 2020 Texas football recruiting class on the offensive side of the ball looks like it could come from the three-star Mesquite, TX, and West Mesquite High School running back Ty Jordan.

For a three-star running back, Jordan is surely getting a ton of national attention at this point of his recruitment. He has a growing offer sheet that now includes 21 programs including the Texas Longhorns football program. Some of his more notable offers came from the Arkansas Razorbacks, Mississippi State Bulldogs, UCF Golden Knights, USC Trojans, and Wisconsin Badgers.

Texas football recruiting would be good to add more at running back for the 2020 recruiting class too than it did in 2019 or 2018. It’s on a good track so far for the 2020 recruiting class with interest in backs like five-star Zachary Evans and Kendall Milton.

Not to say that incoming freshman four-star running back Derrian Brown or rising sophomore Keaontay Ingram won’t make huge impacts during their time on the Forty Acres, but more depth is needed for this offense to thrive. Ingram is going to have to shoulder a very heavy load this coming season if head Texas football coach Tom Herman doesn’t add any more pieces this off-season via the transfer market.

With how much this Longhorns offense likes to run the ball, the running back and quarterback depth need to be solid. Co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Herb Hand also has a lot to work with from all the incoming offensive line talent from the past two recruiting cycles. Yet, running back was a position left in the dust.

At this point in his recruitment, it looks as if the Horns have a good leg up to land Jordan. The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions give Texas some good odds to land Jordan. Rivals FanFutureCast also gives the Horns the edge to land Jordan.

Moreover, Jordan opened up to 247Sports recently about how the Texas football program was “making an impression” on him. Some of these early indications are showing that there is a ton of traction between Herman and Jordan.

What Jordan could bring to the table for the Texas ground game is an extreme amount of agility and speed. He’s also a player that can make an impact on both special teams and defense. He could have a similar impact for the Horns to what it is currently getting out of rising sophomore D’shawn Jamsion and the 2020 commit Mookie Cooper.

Jordan is one of the smallest players Texas ever offers, especially at running back. At 5-foot-7 and 181 pounds, Jordan is strong for his height. Any running back under 185 pounds would have a hard time staying healthy with a heavy workload of running it through the teeth of opposing front sevens.

However, Jordan is a very talented prospect that ranks among the top 400 2020 high school prospects in the nation. He also ranks as the eighth best all-purpose back in the nation. Texas couldn’t do much better in terms of adding speed and versatility to this recruiting class than landing Jordan.
