The secret sauce the Texas basketball program needed to get back to a competitive level consistently might be delivered in the Big 12 Tournament.

We’re less than two weeks away from the start of the Big 12 Tournament, and most teams in the conference have just one regular season game remaining. This season seems like it went by so fast for the Texas basketball program, despite all the ups and downs that made it memorable in a not so great way.

Texas basketball wasn’t able to capitalize on the momentum it built from the March 2 victory over the Iowa State Cyclones at home against the Texas Tech Red Raiders on March 4. This was one of the more important two-game stretches for the Texas Longhorns basketball program this season. You figured the Horns needed to take at least one of those two games.

At least Texas basketball took one of the games. It was a battle of highs and lows between those two outings for head Texas basketball coach Shaka Smart. The win over Iowa State came by the final score of 86-69 and looked as if the Horns could finish this regular season with a ton of momentum.

Instead, Texas basketball took what confidence it had from that 17-point victory over Iowa State and fell completely flat on the road against Texas Tech. The first half saw the Red Raiders start to pull away and never look back on its way to an impressive 70-51 victory.

A potential sign that things could steady out at the most crucial time for the Horns this season is a report that senior shooting guard Kerwin Roach Jr. could be back in the lineup soon. He was suspended for a violation of team rules last month. What impact could he have if he does return for the Big 12 Tournament?
