The fate of head Texas basketball coach Shaka Smart could be finally determined here in the next few weeks after either the Big 12 or NCAA Tournament.

With the state of flux the Texas basketball program sat in for much of the 2018-19 regular season, the hot seat surrounding its head coach kept growing and growing as time moved along. Game-by-game we had no idea what to expect from this Texas basketball program since it couldn’t put anything consistent together through Big 12 play for long stretches of time.

The regular season didn’t finish off on a high note for Texas basketball this season. In the March 9 2018-19 regular season finale that transpired against the TCU Horned Frogs, this team fell short by a good margin with a final score of 69-59. A good number of times this season, this team came up with wins when it was needed most.

However, even that urgency to win games at the most important times faded down the final stretch run of Big 12 play. Outside of a home win over the Iowa State Cyclones last week, it was difficult for Texas basketball to finish any sort of game on a high note.

With that in mind, head Texas basketball coach Shaka Smart was bound to have some rumors swirling that his time on the Forty Acres was about done. More than likely, the fan base will hold out until the end of the Big 12 and NCAA Tournaments to decide the fate of Smart with the Texas basketball program.

If the Texas Longhorns basketball program does decide to ultimately part ways with Smart, the impact will stretch beyond the court. The 2019 Texas basketball recruiting class could also be impacted by a Smart departure this year.

Here’s a deeper look into the rumor about the Texas Longhorns basketball head coach Shaka Smart about his time running up on the Forty Acres and what he needs to do to save his job.
