Texas Football: Impact 4-star ATH Mookie Cooper decommitment carries
A big hit to the 2020 Texas football recruiting class came along on Friday with the quick decommitment of four-star athlete Mookie Cooper.
The roller coaster ride that is recruiting for the Texas football program during the long off-season took a negative hold again on March 8. It’s just not possible for the 2020 Texas football recruiting to have all positive results throughout the entire off-season. There are going to be a few ups and downs as we move into the summer.
Yet, Texas football did get some surprising bad news for the 2020 recruiting class with the early March decommitment of four-star St. Louis, MO, athlete Mookie Cooper. This decommitment from Cooper came after he took a recent set of visits just a month after initially giving his pledge to Texas.
Could Cooper brings his commitment back to the Texas football down the road, or will he commit elsewhere? That question could take a while to be answered since he decommitted so fast from playing on the Forty Acres in the first place.
This turned around quick on the Texas football program, so winning back the commitment of Cooper might be harder than it looks. In general, Cooper is the first major setback for the 2020 Texas football recruiting class. There were a few decommits the Horns had through the 2019 recruiting cycle, but that doesn’t seem to get them much for the past few classes.
We’ll just have to wait and see if the Horns are able to retain this commitment when it boils down to it. The Horns look to have some competition coming out of the Big Ten for Cooper now, and that should stick around for a quite a while.
Here’s a deeper look into what the decommitment of four-star ultra-elusive and speedy St. Louis, MO, 2020 athlete Mookie Cooper means for the Texas Longhorns football program on the recruiting trail moving forward.
