Texas Football: Impact 4-star ATH Mookie Cooper decommitment carries
What this means for the 2020 recruiting class?
The decommitment of Cooper along with a bump up in the ratings for the top 2020 commit for Texas football shifted the picture for this class to a large degree. Cooper was the highest rated 2020 prospect pledged to this Texas recruiting class for the 2020 cycle for the short time that existed.
However, the highest rated commit now lies with four-star dual-threat Lake Travis quarterback Hudson Card. Considering Card got a pretty large ratings bump following the Dallas Opening Regional on March 3, he’s not far off Cooper. Card now ranks as the nation’s No. 74 2020 high school prospect and the second best dual-threat quarterback.
What this does mean for Card and the Horns now is that the 2020 recruiting class needs some more help at the skill positions. Cooper was the elusive early commit for the 2020 recruiting class that would be able to make a dynamic impact on numerous sides of the ball. Texas will have to find another speedy and dynamic playmaker that’s still uncommitted at this point.
How this fits into the bigger picture for the Horns 2020 recruiting class is a slight drop in the national rankings and a shift in the positional needs once again. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2020 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 19 in the nation and second best in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners.
