The bond between the coaching staff for the Texas football program and four-star 2020 Shadow Creek safety Xavion Alford is growing fast.

There was a period of some up and down trends on the recruiting trail for the Texas football program entering spring camp. Some detrimental news was dropped for this program for the 2020 recruiting class, and surprisingly so, with the decommitment of the highest rated pledge. Four-star St. Louis, MO, athlete Mookie Cooper rescinded his pledge and could be giving it to a program soon like the Illinois Fighting Illini.

But, the point here for the Texas football program on the recruiting trail in the absence of Cooper’s pledge is that there are some other needs to have to be filled. Texas football is drawing a ton of interest from some top defensive prospects, which is good since there’s not a single defensive commit in store thus far for the 2020 recruiting class.

The first up for the 2020 Texas football recruiting class on the defensive side of the ball could also help bolster an already strong and building secondary. Potentially the best position group that was upgraded through the 2018 and 2019 recruiting classes for the Texas Longhorns football program came in the defensive backfield. You could also argue wide receiver there.

However, the 2020 Texas football recruiting class could be hoping to soon add a commitment from four-star Pearland, TX, and Shadow Creek High School safety Xavion Alford. Since he was already on the Forty Acres for a visit during Junior Day last month, the fact that Alford could be gearing up for another shows a significant amount of interest with the coaching staff.

What head Texas football coach Tom Herman and defensive coordinator Todd Orlando have to keep on top of with Alford is the building secondary and the potential to make an early impact. Any safety that wants the shot at making an instant impact with this Texas defense has to put in a ton of work with the amount of competition looming at the position. And, there will be quite a bit of competition at safety for years to come.

Per Horns247, Alford is set to make a return to the Forty Acres for yet another unofficial visit at the outset of spring camp on March 14. Spring drills began for the Horns on March 11, so Alford is getting an early jump on getting some exposure to the atmosphere there.

Alford was also quoted saying “it was a good time there” and that Texas is “making him a priority”. Both of those statements from Alford are extremely good signs as to what could be to come for him in relation to the Horns this summer.

In general, Alford ranks among the top 200 2020 high school prospects in the nation and the No. 13 safety. His ever-growing offer sheet seems to never stop expanding. His most recent of his whopping 40 offers came from the Arizona State Sun Devils on March 11. The good news for Herman here is that the 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions gives the Horns the heavy edge in landing his commitment when it’s all said and done.
