5. John Burt

Due to his fluent track career with the Texas Longhorns program, fifth-year senior wide receiver John Burt doesn’t get much action during spring camp. For much of the 2018 campaign, Burt missed time either due to a crowded wideout depth chart in front of him or due to injury.

Regardless of what transpired for Burt last year, he’s still one of the fastest and most experienced receivers on the roster for Texas football. Herman did also state in one of his initial press conferences that Burt is set to be back with the football program full-time when summer workouts and fall camp both arrive.

Herman will have Burt back in the mix for spring camp for the football program after the Big 12 Indoor Track Championships, so he won’t be out for too long. It’s difficult being a two-sport athlete like Burt, but there is a price to pay when concentrating on other sports. Ultimately, it can help him become a more dynamic and elusive wide receiver for this Texas offense.

What detriment his absence for spring camp will bring for the Horns is mainly with the experience he brings to the table. Spring camp doesn’t last very long in the world of college football, so maximizing the effectiveness of the veteran voices in the locker room with so many early enrollees at wide receiver is key.
