3. Patrick Hudson

The offensive line and the running back spots were the two thinnest areas depth-wise on the offensive side of the hall entering the off-season. The difference between the depth needs for the Texas football offensive line and the backfield is what happened on the recruiting trail and transfer market since the outset of the off-season three months back.

Texas did a great job adding some key depth along the line via the recruiting trail and transfer portal. This offensive line added three-star Iowa Western C.C. 6-foot-7 tackle Willie Tyler and former Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets All-ACC guard Parker Braun through the graduate transfer market.

The more detrimental news for the Horns offensive line came with the ending of the football career for veteran offensive tackle Patrick Hudson. If he was able to go for co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach this year, Hudson would be entering his third year of playing for the Horns.

Hudson has injury issues dating back to the 2017 campaign during non-conference play, specifically against the San Jose State Spartans. He just hasn’t had good luck with injuries during his time playing under offensive coordinator Tim Beck and Herman, and he definitely ended his football career starting this past season with some missed time.
