1. Brandon Jones

Among the expected announcements for players missing spring camp was rising senior safety Brandon Jones. After an ankle surgery that he went for after the Sugar Bowl, Jones begins his rehab process during spring drills. It was a high ankle sprain that Jones had to get surgery for in the first place.

Ultimately, this was probably the best time for Jones to get the ankle surgery done. Per Anwar Richardson, the Horns should have Jones back by fall camp so he can get some reps in before the start of the 2019 campaign. Since he is entering his senior campaign, Jones should be ready for the 2019 season either way.

It’s not like Jones needs the reps to build some experience after his breakthrough 2018 season. The former five-star recruit always had a very high ceiling, but his breakout came pretty late during his time on the Forty Acres. He posted two picks, two fumble recoveries, and 5.5 tackles for loss last year.

The issue is that Jones will be one of the few experienced defensive backs returning in 2019. Having him out there for spring drills and the spring football game would really help out for some of the younger corners and safeties, especially among the early enrollees. Other defensive backs like rising sophomores Caden Sterns and B.J. Foster will have to step up in his absence.
