With the conference tournaments all but wrapped up in the world of college hoops, does Texas basketball have enough to get into the NCAA Tournament?

The time that every college hoops fan in the nation should be excited for is finally here. Especially for the fans of the Texas basketball program, finding the right amount of luck to get into the NCAA Tournament field is very important to salvage any sort of success from this up and down 2018-19 regular season.

Even if Texas basketball doesn’t find its way into the NCAA Tournament field via Selection Sunday on March 17, the season will not be over by any means. It owns a record of 16-16 (8-11 Big 12) entering the eventful Selection Sunday.

At least for the fortunes of head Texas basketball coach Shaka Smart, the 2018-19 campaign is effectively over and so could be his tenure on the Forty Acres. During the four years for Smart on the Forty Acres, this program didn’t find near the amount of success that the fans expected out of the former standout VCU Rams head coach.

Now, the Texas Longhorns basketball program is just fighting to get into one of the last four spots in the NCAA Tournament. Texas needed some help in other conference tournaments after its loss in its first game of the Big 12 Tournament against the Kansas Jayhawks. Having teams like the Arizona State Sun Devils fall short against the Oregon Ducks didn’t help the cause at all.

However, Texas basketball does still have some big wins on its NCAA Tournament resume that could somehow get it over the hump when it’s all said and done. If this team does get into the 68 team field, it would be one of the more dangerous out of all the squads with at-large bids. Texas basketball would definitely be a team to watch out for.

Here’s a deeper look into the five reasons why the Texas Longhorns basketball program should get one of the at-large bids for the NCAA Tournament field this year on Selection Sunday.
