If the 2020 Texas football recruiting class is to take off anytime soon under head coach Tom Herman, it needs to have a big month of March.

Some of the most important parts of the first week of spring camp for the Texas football program came with a host of key recruiting targets visiting. There were a handful of key recruiting visits for the Texas football program especially at the first practice with full pads on March 15. That will always be a big draw for a program that has as much momentum on the recruiting trail as we have here.

The 2020 Texas football recruiting class was off to a strong start following a Junior Day haul that included four-star top 100 high school prospect and St. Louis, MO, athlete Mookie Cooper and four-star offensive tackle Jaylen Garth. What broke some of that momentum after Junior Day, and to start the month of March, was the decommitment of Cooper. A visit with the Illinois Fighting Illini seemingly sparked his rescinsion from the pledge to the 2020 Texas football recruiting class.

Now, head Texas football coach Tom Herman has the opportunity to get a fifth commit back in store for his 2020 recruiting class and stay firmly back in the top 20 in the national class rankings. That could come with a key commitment or two during the early part of spring camp. There will be some very big targets for the 2020 and 2021 recruiting cycles on the Forty Acres in the next few weeks.

In general, Texas football is set to have a pivotal recruiting month during March. To recover from that decommitment from Cooper, the Horns need to add at least a handful of pledges and interest for the next two recruiting cycles.

Here’s a look at the three most important visits for the Texas Longhorns football program among big time recruits for the first weekend of spring camp action.
