Texas Football: 3 concerning spring camp injuries
By far the most concerning of the bunch among all the absences and injury issues that the Horns are dealing with for spring camp belongs to incoming freshman four-star linebacker De’Gabriel Floyd. Expected to be ready to go as an early enrollee for spring drills, Floyd is still yet to be cleared to participate in team practice.
Herman described the situation that Floyd is going through as having a few “stingers” from his high school days at Westlake in Westlake Village, CA. But, it appears to be more serious than that since Floyd is dealing with neck issues that is something to be monitored moving forward. Head and neck injuries need to be prevented as much as possible, and this creates a tricky situation.
You want Floyd to be prepared for the pace of play against opponents like the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and LSU Tigers this fall, and in Big 12 play, but he needs to be cautious with this one. Texas does have a difficult schedule ahead in 2019, and getting some of the younger skilled players set to go is a big task at hand.
According to an open post threat from The Football Braniacs, Floyd was held out of team drills again on March 19. He would’ve suited up with the second team if he was cleared for team drills at that point. We’ll continue to monitor the situation closely with Floyd, but this is something to worry about concerning his past head and neck injuries.
