A showdown that nearly every college football fan in the nation would be in favor of seeing would involve a rejuvenated Texas football-Texas A&M rivalry.

The common speculation as to what the current status of the Lone Star Showdown between the Texas football program and the Texas A&M Aggies runs rampant each and every off-season. Texas football hasn’t met up with the Aggies since the 2011 season. Texas A&M bolting to join the SEC canceled out this rivalry that was previously one of the biggest and fiercest in the nation.

What does happen every year between the Longhorns and the Aggies is off-the-field feuds that sparks ideas as to what would happen if the two teams met on-the-field. Texas football and Texas A&M both had rather successful seasons under fairly new coaching regimes that look to provide a bright future both on the Forty Acres and in College Station.

At least if the Aggies and Longhorns are both playing well, the state of Texas has a ton of respect and attention across the college football landscape. That likely won’t change anytime soon since both programs should be ranked at least in the top 15 of most preseason polls entering the 2019 campaign.

Texas football well deserves a top 10 ranking in all the important preseason polls. But, the Horns still need to prove that all the hype building this off-season isn’t a fluke. Texas A&M, meanwhile, is finding more success under second-year head coach Jimbo Fisher than it did under Kevin Sumlin (who is now with the Arizona Wildcats).

Fisher and head Texas football coach Tom Herman would make for a very intriguing rivalry if these two programs can get past the differences and meet again for the Lone Star Showdown.

Here’s a deeper look into the five reasons why the Texas Longhorns football program would beat the Texas A&M Aggies if the two teams met this past season.
