What will it take for the Texas basketball program to come out on top against TCU in the NIT Semifinals after knocking off the Colorado Buffaloes?

In one of the most convincing victories of the season for the Texas basketball program, the Colorado Buffaloes were completely humiliated for a stretch of time in the NIT Quarterfinals on March 27 at the Frank Erwin Events Center. At least in the first half, Texas basketball completely commanded the pace of play.

Some amount of the disappointment this Texas basketball fan base experienced during the regular season and in the Big 12 Tournament is being relieved with the way this team is playing in the NIT. Although, even winning the NIT is worse in the minds of some college hoops fans than making it into the NCAA Tournament and losing in a play-in game.

That is likely the viewpoint of most of the Texas basketball fans. The results this team saw in the past four seasons under head Texas basketball coach Shaka Smart are unacceptable to most fans, even among the more even-keeled of the group. Smart led Texas basketball to some of its worst results and records of any through the past three decades.

Yet, we do have an intriguing matchup on tap for Texas on April 2 among the final four teams in the NIT. Texas next moves to Madison Square Garden in New York, NY, to face a Big 12 foe in the TCU Horned Frogs who swept the season series in conference play. And, both Texas and TCU had to knock off former Big 12 programs in Colorado and the Nebraska Cornhuskers at some point before this pivotal showdown between the two sides.

Here’s a look into the five takeaways we have from the convincing 13-point victory for the Texas Longhorns basketball program over the Colorado Buffaloes at the Frank Erwin Center on March 27.
