Texas Basketball: 5 takeaways post-NIT Quarterfinal victory vs. Colorado
1. Big 12 revenge on the mind
One of the few teams that was actually to consistently get the best of the Texas basketball program during the regular season was TCU. In two meetings, the Horned Frogs controlled the pace of play most of the way and swept the season series in Big 12 play.
This has to be a point of motivation for the Horns since TCU didn’t even make it into the NCAA Tournament. TCU also barely skated by the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Big 12 Tournament. Texas has a quite a few reasons to care a ton about this game. The coaching staff especially has to be prepared for what lies ahead against head coach Jamie Dixon’s squad at MSG.
TCU got by Creighton in the NIT Quarterfinals by the final score of 71-58. The Horned Frogs previously had to work through Nebraska and Sam Houston State to get to that point. Up to this point, the Horned Frogs are one of the more impressive squads in the entire NIT field. But, Texas is coming off an impressive showing against the Buffs too.
On the other side of the bracket leaves the Wichita State Shockers and a surprising five-seed Lipscomb squad. To get to this point, Lipscomb had to get past the NC State Wolfpack, Harvard Crimson, and Georgetown Hoyas. Those three programs are legitimately talented teams this season, so Limpscomb is a very intriguing story now.
