Texas Football: Impact 3-star 2020 RB Jaden Hullaby commit brings
An underrated addition to the 2020 Texas football recruiting class came on March 30 at a big position of need with three-star RB Jaden Hullaby.
Even though it was a long time between when the 2020 recruiting class for the Texas football program was able to add any commits, that string of downtrodden weeks ended on March 30. Texas football got rolling by adding another commit on the offensive side of the ball to the 2020 recruiting class to end the month of March by way of three-star Dallas, TX, running back Jaden Hullaby.
This 6-foot-2 and 205 pound Bishop Dunne High School product is not one of the highest ranked running backs for the 2020 recruiting cycle by any means. But, Hullaby could become a special talent with a unique skill set and powerful running style that could set him apart on the Forty Acres.
More so than anything, this commit is nice to add bodies to a depleted Texas football running back room that only features a handful of scholarship players at the moment. Hullaby will add some pop to a running back room that needs to get at least two or three signees for the 2020 Texas football recruiting class when it’s all said and done.
However, the commitment from Hullaby adds the fifth commitment to this No. 21 nationally ranked 2020 recruiting class for the Texas football program. All five of the commits are offensive high school prospects for the Horns. But, Hullaby is the first running back commit in the class. He’ll add some depth at the position and should stick around thanks to all the offensive line talent among this group of Horns pledges.
Although Hullaby is ranked outside of the nation’s top 800 2020 high school prospects, he had a sizable amount of programs on his offer sheet. Before announcing his commitment to Texas, Hullaby held 25 scholarship offers. Among the more notable of his offers came from the Florida Gators, LSU Tigers, Michigan State Spartans, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Arkansas Razorbacks.
This is a big win on the recruiting trail for head Texas football coach Tom Herman. Landing someone like Hullaby over some other Big 12 competitors like the Baylor Bears and TCU Horned Frogs is a big win on the recruiting trail to keep in-state talent rolling onto the Forty Acres. That was a troubling trend that dropped off a bit for Texas on the recruiting trail before the past two cycles.
It does seem like Hullaby was just waiting for this offer from Herman and the Horns to announce his pledge decision. He did have a big month of March in terms of the additions to his offer sheet including Texas, LSU, and the Houston Cougars. He also had an unofficial visit with the SMU Mustangs on March 22.

The film on Hullaby from some of his more prominent camp outings and from Bishop Dunne shows an underrated athlete that could also turn into a good receiver out of the backfield. He isn’t the fastest running back in the world, but he makes up for that lack of quickness with power and versatility.
If the Horns can add a speedy running back to this 2020 recruiting class, then it would be a nice pairing with Hullaby. He’s a nice add as more of a utility player for the Texas Longhorns football program in this 2020 class that plays on both sides of the ball for Bishop Dunne.
