Texas Football: 5 best remaining RB transfer prospects
The running game for the Vanderbilt Commodores this past season was one of the more impressive in the SEC under head coach Derek Mason. But, that wasn’t mainly thanks to then redshirt junior rusher Josh Crawford, it was due to the efforts of fourth-year running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn.
In general, contending in the SEC is difficult especially for a program like Vanderbilt. Even though Vanderbilt is in the SEC East, it fights an uphill battle year in and year out to compete with programs that recruit much better than them. That uphill battle could play a role in the decision that Crawford ultimately comes to after putting his name in the portal back in early January, per The Tennessean.
Another reason for the transfer of Crawford, and the most likely one it seems, is the rise of Vaughn this past season. Vaughn totaled more than 1,200 rushing yards and 14 total touchdowns on his way to true breakthrough junior campaign. Crawford is a talented former three-star recruit, but he never had much of a chance for the past two years.
In total, Crawford racked up more than 200 total yards and two touchdowns during an injury riddled career in Nashville, TN. If he is able to stay healthy, he’s a versatile and experienced back that stands at 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds. Crawford has underrated speed and could help ease the burden on the younger ball carriers on the Forty Acres.
