1. Chris Brown

Position: Safety

Among the more surprising, in a bad way, and potentially serious injuries and/or absences that surfaced last weekend for Texas football involved rising junior safety Chris Brown. Per Horns247 and a Tweet from Inside Texas, Brown was taken to the hospital late last week for lung issues.

Herman also reportedly stated that this lung issue for Brown wasn’t too serious, but it did cause him to miss the entirety of the spring scrimmage. That helped to thin out the first-team secondary group for defensive coordinator Todd Orlando even more than it previously was.

Brown likely would’ve received significant playing time at either safety or nickelback. He and third-year defensive back Josh Thompson are the two most experienced, in terms of relevant game action, for the Horns outside don the projected starters. It would be good to see how Brown and Thompson would fair together in this secondary.

However, the main focus here should be with getting Brown recovered and healthy again after this surprising hospital visit. Given the lengthy injury report for Texas right now, any news that comes out like this is urgent and scary. We should hope for the best in getting him back healthy in the remaining weeks of spring ball.
