#21 Jordan Whittington – Running Back/Wide Receiver

Freshman (6-1, 215)

Early enrollee Jordan Whittington arrived to Texas football this spring fresh off a record breaking performance in the 4-A Division II Championship game where he totaled 377 yards (43 receiving, 334 rushing) and scored six touchdowns. Not only did Whittington win Offensive MVP for the game, but he also won the Defensive MVP of the game as he posted 11 tackles playing safety.

Whittington was recruited to Texas to play slot receiver according to multiple recruiting websites, but because of the lack of depth at running back this spring Herman decided to move Whittington into the backfield.

An experiment due to lack of depth could turn into a permanent position change for Whittington as he has shown the wiggle, short area quickness, and explosive long runs this spring that the Longhorn backfield desperately needs. Coming from a wide receiver background in high school Whittington will provide another threat in the passing game and could be flexed out to the slot in certain packages.

Like Ingram, Whittington has the ability to break off a long touchdown run this Saturday and that alone is a reason to keep an eye on him.
