#5 Bru McCoy – Wide Receiver

Freshman (6-3, 215)

Another early enrollee on the list, Bru McCoy shocked the college football world in January when the former 5-star recruit transferred from the University of Southern California to Texas just after spending two weeks on USC campus. Although McCoy and the Longhorns are still waiting on his eligibility for the 2019 season due to transfer rules, he has been eligible to practice this offseason and will play in the spring game.

McCoy was awarded the Maxwell National High School Offensive Player of the Year, and was ranked the top athlete in the country, according to 247sports composite rankings, due to his ability to play on both sides of the ball in college. At Texas, McCoy will get his shot at receiver, and because of his elite talent you could see him being used in a similar way Lil’Jordan Humphrey was in Herman’s offense.

A big-body receiver with good speed, McCoy will likely start on the outside at receiver but don’t be surprised if he moves into the slot for a couple series in the spring game. With a log-jam in the depth chart at outside receiver, Herman could move McCoy inside simply because you can’t keep a talent like him off the field.

The spring game will be our first, and possibly only, time to watch McCoy in 2019 depending on how his eligibility waiver goes with the NCAA. Because of the unknown with that situation, watch McCoy while you have the chance to this year.
