Texas Football: 5 Orange-White Game bold predictions
3. Jordan Whittington leads in total yards from scrimmage
This part of the bold predictions might not actually be an out there thought at this point of spring ball. Since the former five-star 2019 wide receiver Texas football signee Jordan Whittington made his way to the Forty Acres as an early enrollee, he’s showed out better than most returning skill position players.
Whittington seemed to have immediately forced third year running back Daniel Young out of the picture in the backfield rotation. We could be looking at a backfield rotation in this Orange-White Game that mainly features Whittington, rising sophomore Keaontay Ingram, and redshirt senior breakout candidate Kirk Johnson.
Herman and third-year offensive coordinator Tim Beck made the move on April 9 to move Whittington from wide receiver to running back officially on the depth chart. That seems to be a very popular move with the fans thus far. Since he was mostly featured in the backfield in the two spring scrimmages, this move makes a lot of sense.
If Herman does give Whittington a host of looks out of the backfield and in the receiving game, this could be a massive showing from him this weekend. This is an important emergence for the Horns since the running back room depth thinned out like it did in the quarterback room just ahead of spring ball.
