2. Malcolm Epps replaces Collin Johnson with ease

It wasn’t too long ago that Texas football was hoping that now rising senior wideout Collin Johnson was a projected breakthrough star. Now, Johnson could become one of the nation’s brightest superstars at wide receiver and is looking to prove his worth as a potential first round 2019 NFL Draft pick.

The change of pace for the Horns on April 13 will be at the outside receiver spot where Johnson likely won’t be filling in. Lingering injury and just unnecessary risk will likely keep Johnson out of the spring football game. That will be a similar situation to what Texas has in store with fellow senior wideout Devin Duvernay.

However, the door that this opens with Johnson set to miss the Orange-White Game is for other sizable wide receivers getting their shot to make an impact. The two names that stick out include a pair of second-year wideouts, Malcolm Epps and Brennan Eagles. The talent and potential are huge with both, but we need to see show emerges.

As far as spring ball and the scrimmages go thus far, Epps seems to have the slight edge over Eagles. But, we’re splitting hairs at this point to say that one is clearly better than the other. Each will have their fair shot at getting extra playing time this year. But, the size and strength of Epps could give him the edge in this spring game.
