Texas Football: 5 defensive players to watch in spring game
#31 DeMarvion Overshown – Safety
Sophomore (6-3, 210)
The Longhorns have an incredible amount of depth at the safety position heading into the 2019 season with starters Brandon Jones, Caden Sterns and B.J. Foster returning. With both Jones and Sterns not playing in the spring game and Foster now playing the nickel position, sophomore DeMarvion Overshown will get his shot to show the Texas coaching staff and Longhorn fans what he can bring to the table.
Overshown may be the forgotten man from the 2018 defensive back class, but he was just as highly ranked as the others being the number six safety in the nation and number five overall player in the state of Texas according to 247Sports composite rankings.
A tall and rangy player in the secondary, Overshown has the speed to play as a field safety but also has the ‘head hunter’ mentality to play in the box. He is expected to run with the first team defense on Saturday and has the potential to make some bone crushing hits.
Although Overshown might not be a starting safety in 2019 when Jones and Sterns return to action, he will be relied upon as a key depth piece and could see some playing time as a box-safety in Orlando’s ‘Lightning package’ that features six defensive backs.
