Texas Football: Elite RB Zachary Evans, All-EN 7v7 team, flatline vs. Fast
With the Orange-White Game occurring this weekend for Texas football, the True Buzz Recruiting Tournament largely flew under the radar.
This was a big recruiting weekend for the Texas football program in general. Whether it be the Orange-White Game on April 13 that featured a host of top tier talent on the Forty Acres or the True Buzz Recruiting Tournament, there was a lot to follow for the Longhorns. Texas football recruiting had to be busy at work to keep up with everything going on this weekend.
However, there weren’t all positives for the 2020 and 2021 Texas football recruiting classes in the True Buzz Recruiting Tournament that will eventually build up to the National Championship 7v7.
The worst, and possibly most surprising, showing of the weekend came when the elite five-star Texas football target running back Zachary Evans and his 7v7 team flatlined in pool and bracket play. The All-EN team features a host of skilled 2020 and 2021 recruits like Evans and possible four-star wide receiver and Texas target Troy Omeire.
In this under-the-radar 7v7 tournament that All-EN competed in on April 13 and 14, the same weekend as the Longhorns spring football game, Evans and his squad didn’t do great. The ultra-talented Houston Fast team upended All-EN in pool play and bracket play. Both losses came by significant margins too.
There wasn’t much going for All-EN either with top wideouts like Omeire and 2021 Texas target Cody Jackson getting mostly shutdown by a strong Houston Fast secondary. Evans didn’t have much of a role in the offense for All-EN when it was all said and done.
There were only two games for All-EN to play in, but both showed a mostly lackluster offense. This group of mostly Houston, TX, natives likely didn’t have their best showing of all the National 7v7 Tournaments we’re set to see during the 2019 college football off-season.
Another surprising result from the True Buzz Recruiting Tournament was the fact that Houston Fast was eliminated early on in bracket play and all the KDB Elite teams were done early too. Some of the best teams chalked full of talented four and five-star prospects were knocked out early on.
It is still worth following the 7v7 tour for the off-season, especially to see what happens with Evans and a potentially elite Texas quarterback target like rising North Shore dual-threat four-star quarterback Dematrius Davis. There’s a lot to like about the combination of talent that these Houston natives put together.
This just wasn’t the best showing we’ll ever see from the All-EN team. Hopefully, elite Texas football targets like Omeire and Evans don’t get completely shut down by just one opposing secondary.
