How will things shake out for the latest departure out of the Texas football program in the NCAA Transfer Portal with linebacker Cam Townsend?

It was a difficult time for the Texas football program to find any footing at the beginning of the off-season in terms of retaining players deeper down the depth chart from transferring. There were numerous players from the 2018 Texas football team that put their name into the newly instituted NCAA Transfer Portal back in December 2018 and January 2019.

The most recent player to put his name in the transfer portal was the former three-star 2015 signee and rising redshirt senior outside linebacker Cam Townsend. He is the first linebacker from the Texas football program to put his name in the transfer portal, though. Most that previously put their name into the transfer portal from Texas football were quarterbacks and running backs.

The transfer of Townsend out of the Texas football program was first reported on the Twitter timeline of Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. That news came down from Wilson on Twitter on April 18 that Townsend had the intentions to transfer off the Forty Acres.

The news didn’t get much attention initially since Townsend wasn’t a huge part of the Longhorns team for the past few years. In his career, he’s totaled just five tackles in four games played. He does have an appearance in at least one game each season since 2015, outside of 2017.

Here’s a deeper look into the three best landing spots for the former Texas Longhorns football linebacker Cam Townsend after he put his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal.
