Texas Football: 3 best LB Cam Townsend transfer landing spots
1. Oklahoma State Cowboys
Similar to the Big 12 and regional connection that Townsend would hold with the Houston football program, the Oklahoma State Cowboys could be a logical landing spot for him. Oklahoma State doesn’t have the same talent level on defense that the Longhorns do. He also wouldn’t have to go far for this transfer.
Oklahoma State has a ton of turnover in the linebacking corps, so adding experience via the graduate transfer market with an immediately eligible Townsend out of the Texas football program is a good move for both parties. If Townsend isn’t going to be utilized on the Forty Acres, the Oklahoma State defense could be ideal.
The biggest loss that the Pokes will undergo this off-season in the linebacking corps, and possibly the most underrated on the defensive side of the ball is Justin Phillips. Townsend could fill a similar slot to what Phillips did this past season. He won’t be the same as Phillips, but Oklahoma State would surely value his presence.
Moreover, head coach Mike Gundy and Oklahoma State hit the graduate transfer market pretty hard the past few years. Townsend could be yet another valuable add that has experience suiting up against a number of Big 12 opponents. He could also just bring experience to the table that the Pokes don’t have at linebacker heading into the 2019 campaign.
